DEPUTATIONS.
CHIRESR TRADING. This morning a deputation consisting of Messrs Sew Hoy and Won* Cbing Wing, introduced by Mr H. Houghton, waited upon the Hon. Geo. M'Lean with a view of getting the import duty of sa per lb. on green ginger reduced or done away with altogether. The deputation stated that in tho neighboring Colonies of Victoria and New South Wales the article in question was admitted duty free. The duty was equal to 200 per cent, on the value of the ginger. Mr M'Lean promised to look into the matter and see what could be done. GREEN ISLAND BRANCH RAILWAY. Messrs F. L. Jeffeoat, Howorth, and W. Brash, members of the Seaside Road Board, called upon Mr M'Lean as delegates from the residents in the district about Brighton. The deputation wished to know the cause of the delay in completing the Green Island branch railway to the Brighton road, which was the means of putting the inhabitants to great inconvenience. Mr M'Leah replied that it was to the interest of the Government to complete all the branch railways now in progress, and they hoped soon to have this and others finished.
