EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held to-day. Present—Messrs Mncnndrew (iu the chair) J. L. Gillie .s, Green, and G. Lumsdeu. The Secrktart (Mr Hislop) reported the following appointments since iastmeetlng.— -Mr J. Kirby, to new school Rothe. a v ;.nd Eavenshonrne; W:'ss A. Anderson, schoolmistress, WeatLerstones ; Miss Finlay, Outram. The report by Mr Taylor, Inspector, on the various localities recently visited by him for tho purpose of determines' the most suitable schoolsites wan considered. The following sites wr-ro approved ofPart of section 15, block 8, Creel:stoo, asHeriot School sue; north-east corner, section 22, block 2, Glentonich; the corner adjoining section. Consideration of an ar plication for a second ■pupil-teacher at Forbuvy was postponed until u state-vent of tho attendance should he forwarded. Messrs Green, Gillies, mid Reid were appointed a committee to consider, questions in connection withtae leasing of a hj rge Educational Reserve iu the HokOnm district. An application by Mr Nome, Rector of the High Schooi, tor a board on which to register the duces of the High School, was declined. Mrs W.H. Brown was appointed sewing-teacher to the Girls High School, in place of a junior teacher. J Mrs Burn, Lady Principal of the Girls' High School and Mr Nome applied to the Board for Unusual allowance to purchase the Christmas medals and prizes. The application was declined. Mr Hislop waa appointed treasurer to tke Board. An abstn -t of tLa schools* building accounts was 'aid before the Boaxd by the Treasurer from October 1 to Dtccml**- 6 as follows: - Total amount authorised to date, L\0,690 IBs 7d; claims for two thirds for repairs pasooa at meeting to-day, L63718a 4d; works represented as Indispensable and very urgent, L 2.158; other school requirements, L 3,255; total, L16,74111a lid. It waa’agreed that application should be made to the Colonial Government for so much of the above amount as is not already sanctioned. On the suggestion of the Secretary it was agreed that the monthly meeting should be held on the last Wednesday of the month instead of the first as at present. ‘
