FREE THOUGHT LECTURE.

To the Editor. Sir, —I understand Mr Bright is returning here, and if to repeat his lectures on the above subject, it is to be hoped that all “ governors, teachers, spiritual pastors, and masters ” will not fail to impress upon the faithful the great danger to faith and morals attending the listening to such stuff of which he was lately the exponent; and that not because of its truth, but it being one of the undeniable facts of our nature “that it is impossible to touch pitch without being defiled,” and it is mere self-conceit for even the strongest to think otherwise. Men of mind and ordinary education can, of course, see through him, but the enemy (who are shrewd) are, of course, aware their audiences are not of that description. There is, however, another danger. It should never be forgotten that being baptised, Mr Bright is a brother (an erring one as we believe), and should be treated as such ; hence, there is no room for uncharitable treatment, or of what is, if possible, worse—Pharisaical contempt.—l am, &c., Faith.
