CITY POLICE IS COURT.
Saturday, December 2. (Before his Worship the Mayor and K. Ramsay, Esq., J.P’s.) Drunkenness. James Renshaw and Edward Russell were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. A Country Yokel. —Mary Anne Hefferman, one of the demimonde, was charged with stealing L2, the property of Daniel Barry. Prosecutor stated that he met the accused in Princes street, and accompanied her to her house. Here they had drinks together, and he pulled out his poeket-book, and “he was blessed if she did not whip it out of his hand.” When she returned it he missed L3.—George Thornton, mate of the last witness, said that he gave money to the accused.—The charge was dismissed.—The prosecutor wanted to know if he was not to get his money ; and on being told that he had forfeited his claim to it, declared that when he again came inco town he would be careful of the society with which he associated.
