LEASING OF RUNS.
At the Land Board meeting to-day the following memo, by the Chief Surveyor, in reference to the expiration of pastoral leases in 1878, was read:— Beferring to instructions which T had some time ago from the Provincial Government, at the instance of the Waste Land Board, relative to eighteen runs, comprising an area of 380,000 acres, the leases of which expire in 1878, a topographical survey is now proceeding over a portion of this country. fW* Sty?"* V' 7 fe d n ' which ■» contiguoul One of the results of this survey will he a correct map, to a scale of two miles to tie inch, on™ Mch the Board will be able to apportion and adjust boundaries according to natural features. If the Board gave the pastoral tenant an extra tenancy for six months, it might be held that the tenancy was for another year.—Mr Reid strongly urged that a legal opinion should be obtained on the point, and the Acting Chief Commissioner was instructed accordingly. The matter is to be furthered at next meeting.
