'THE LICENSED VICTUALLERS' GAZETTE.'

This afternoon we received the following letter:— 6

Dear Sir,—We have been consulted by Mr Moslev proprietor of «The Otago Licensed Victuallers' .Gazette,' with reference to the following local which appears in your issue on Saturday last, the 35th inst:—

i. , We .understand that 'The Otago Licensed VictuaUers Gazette* has ceased publication." Mr Mosley is greatly surprised you should have permitted such a statement, which is totally untrue, Whave been published without first satisfying yourself as to the authenticity of your information, as it must be apparent to you that, seeing the widespread circulation your paper enjoys, incalculable injury and loss must accrue to our client before the false tidings can be negatived. We are, therefore, instructed to inform you that, unless you publish at once a complete refutation of the above statement and make Mr Moslev ample compensation for the loss he has sustained and will sustain by your publication of so damaging a report, an action will be at once commenced against you m the Supreme Court to recover damages in respect thereof.—Yours faithfully, George Bell, Esq., proprietor of Evening Star, Dunedin. November 27,1876.

The paragraph in question was founded on what we believed to be trustworthy information ; and we are glad to find that the * Gazette' still exists. Its issue of Saturday reached us this morning.
