(Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.) Ebba-ch of Railway Regulations.— Alfred Perry was charged by F. W. Price, railway policeman, with smoking in a railway carriage on the 17th inst. Defendant pleaded not guilty.-F. Logie, guard, stated mat he was informed on the 17th inst. by Porter Dean that defendant and several others were smoking. Witness cautioned them, and one Robertson said there was no room in the smoking-carriage. In answer to - defendant 'witness said he saw a lighted pipe in defendant’s hand at the Pehchetßay station.—Arthur Dean stated defendant was smoking both at Dunedin andPehchetßay stations.—His Worship dismissed the case as the information had been laid under the Act of 1870, which had been by the Public Works Act, 1876. Fresh information however could be laid under the Act. Several other mmilur cases were withdrawn.
