" , .. r from A Dwelling. —James Ur bell White, amau of color, was charged, 1 on remand, with stealing a watch and and two pendants, of the value of Lls, the property of John Macintosh. Prosecntor wai ’ defended by Mr M‘Keay.—Prisoner deposed that he was a batcher in the employ of George Wilson. On the 21st mst. the prisoner was stopping in the same house. Witness identified the watch and ■ appendages produced at his They ■ were last in his possession on the 21st inst. Prisoner was on the premises that morning, and witness missed the goods that night. He reported the robbery to tbe police, wad next saw the articles in Detective Bain’s possession.—By Mr M*Keay; I recognieed the watch produced as my properiyby a J on the-ajflside case. Prisoner was a cook m wSgmn’s employ. Five other pes--B°?s weep on the premises besides the prisoner.—Edward Hyams, manager of the fendigo Pawn (MSce, George street, stated that on the- 21st mat. prisoner pledged with him the silver watch, chain, and pendant • now produced for L 3 He cave the name of Thomas Phillips.— Mobs Moss was in the Bendago Pawn Office on the day in questiony • and deposed that he saw prisoner pawn the watch produced. - Detective B&indeposed that when he arrested White he denied all knowledge of the matter.—Prisoner was committed for trial.
Illegally on the Premises.'—Henry Vezey was charged with being illegally on the premises ef Mr Kettle, Royal Terrace, at half-past four o’clock this morning.—As * the accused was not in a fit stite to appear, the charge was adjourned till to-morrow.
