THE MILTON POLICE.
To the Editor.
Sir, — In your issue of Tuesday you republished an article from the ‘ Bruce Herald, ’ calling on Commissioner Walden to cause an inquiry into the conduct of Constable Tait. In justice to the constable, allow me to state that if it had been a man with a different coat on the constable would have been spoken of by the same journal as a man not to be trifled with. As one who saw the assault, and knows both parties, I consider the constable only did his duty.—l am, &c., Manners. Milton, November 16, 1875. [The rest of our correspondent’s letter deals with matters that were not referred to in the extract made by us from the Tokomairiro paper; but should the Commissioner feel called upon to institute an inquiry, “Manners’” name and address are at his disposal.— Ed. E. S.]
