On Saturday last one of the identities of Macetown, known from their bibulous qualities as the “ Twelve Apostles,” died after a short illness. The ‘ Cromwell Argus' adds that one of his fellow-disciples is also reported as seriously ill. The largest snake ever known to have been Seen in Australia was lately killed on the Richmond River, in the north of New South Wales. It was a carpet snake, and measured 17ft in length. When opened it was found to contain the remains of three ducks. It was sent to the museum in Sydney. That was not a bad idea which Mr Swansou gave expression to on the question of gr aoa management and discipline. He said e would prefer criminals being made to do so much work rather than perform a certain term of imprisonment, and would say to them—“ There is your pile of stones ; pick away at them till you get out.”
