OCEAN BEACH RAILWAY.
To the Editor, Sib, —Can you or anjrof your readers inform me why the Dunedin, Peninsula, and Ocean Beach Railway Company have not taken theline. to the terminus of the Forbuiy road as proposed in their prospectus ? It is very on the part of the Company not to do so, as where the railway at present terminates it is useless for picnic parties, owing to the distance that they have t<> carry, their provisions, which prevents them availing themselves of the une; oofcs'eqtiently, . they continue to iue cabs. Besides, the Company are surely hound to complete the line to tht said road, for it was on the faith of their doing so that Govenpuent. . I presume that the Bailway nothing to lor; ,t MCI 12 ,Wu \
Q. timfcoi th«y oan •asuy avoid the land belonging to the for bury Park Company (outside the present fenced-in racecourse) by running through the sandhills at Burnside’s corner, and thenoe on the sea side of the high sandhills to the junction of the Forbury road and sea beach. The advantages would be very groat. Ist. The cheerful and invigorating view of the tea from the carriages on arrival would greatly help to make it a place of favorite resort. 2nd. The Company would still have no land to purchase. 3rd, By erecting plain, long buildings as waiting-rooms they could get handsome returns from persons being allowed to pay for the use of small tables for their picnic parties. Trusting that the above suggestion will be shortly carried out, as I feel sure it will be both profitable to the Company and beneficial to the public,—l am, &c., Sea Breeze. Dunedin, November 1. [Our correspondent does not quote fairly from the prospectus, which srya that the Forbury branch shall terminate at or near the Forbury road.
