CANONGATE STREET FORMATION.
To the Editor Sir, — I was much surprised to see in your paper this evening that the City Council Lad put off the acceptance of the contract for the formation of Canongate street. Truly it may be said we are a long-suffering people, as, though we live in the centre of the City, we are as completely cut off (as far as wheeled traffic is concerned) as if we resided in the suburbs, just for the want of a direct road; in fact It is quite Impossible to get a cab'to ohr houses after dark. Many persons who have resided here for the last ten or twelve years can vouch for there being comparatively mot a pound spent up here, while hundreds, nay thousands, have been spent on the flat. Surely our City Councillors’ sense of justice will not waste any more time In talking,;but afccept the tender at once for the formation of Canongate street. A moro neceasary job has . seldom been brought before the CogncU.—l ara, &c., : ' "A Resident, Dunedin, November 1.
