THE DAVENPORTS EUCHRED.
At the Davenport Brothers' performance at Inglewood an unpleasant disturbance occurred. A correspondent of the ' B ndigo Advertiser' relates .-—"Professor -Kay, as usual, made his appearance on the stage, and asked the audience to aeleot two gentlemen from their number to act as a committee. Instantly the hall rebounded with the cries of 'Jewell and" Butcher.' Professor Fay objected to any gentleman living out of the district coming on the stage to tie the Brothers, and more ospecially Mr Butcher, as they had had enough of him in Sandhurst, where he tied them up in., a most brutal manner, stopping the circulation of the blood. The cries for 'Jewell and Butcher' continued. Mr f Bastow rose and said to Professor Fay, 'You asked the audience to select two < gentlemen. They have done so. Why do you object to Jewell and Butcher. Professor Fay replied that they must object to, Mr Batcher. Mr Ira l>avenport then stepped on the stage and requ Bted Mr Butcher to clear off, adding that his money would be returned if he would out. The utmost confusion ensued. Mr Butcher would not move, as the audience was with him. Mr Ira Davenport threatened to lock But'her up, and fetched a policeman, when the audience still insisted on Jewell aud Butcher tying the Davenports. Professor Fay said that sooner than the brothers should be tied by Butcher he would return all the money, and anyone that choose to go out could baYo his money at the door. Mr •Jewell offered to tie them both, but this they declined. He then offered to tie them for a wager on the stage ; this they declined. Mr Jewell said, ' Consider yourselves bowled out. You have shown the white leather. Throw up the sponge.' Twothirds of the audience got their money returned, and left the hall."
