She brings fortyseven saloon and twenty-eight steerage passengers, 426 tons of cargo for all ports, and 166 rams. She sails at 4 pm. for Dunedin. Passengers for Dunedin : Messrs Blanchard, Jenkins, Haley, Wilton Boss, Macfarlane, and M‘Donald (agent for Mr Emmett), Misses Jenkins, Maefarlane, and Gow, Mesdames Burt, Brown and iwnilg, hybnsj, fourteen in the ateeraffs, and 906 tons ewfe.

He caught his opponent at 771 and won by 197 points, Cozens only scoring 203, although he is one of the best amateurs in Auckland. Huberts made breaks of 119, 108, 99, 97, 90, 63, and 69; Cozens’s highest break was 20. The game occupied one honr and forty-five minutes. Huberts plays Mr Perkins, of the Occidental, to-night, and Weston on Wednesday. His quickest hundred last night t»ss mads in six minutes, his slowest in seventeen minutes. The Cxdonial-bom riflemen of Auckland propose to challenge a team of any other nationality. There was a remarkable scene in the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day. Mr Barstow, the Magistrate, read a written statement declining jurisdiction in a Highway Board case, whereupon Mr Tyler, the Board’s solicitor, said such conduct was unparalleled in a British Court, and severely condemned the Magistrate, who left the Bench in dudgeon. The articles in the ‘ Guardian ’ and ‘ Times ’ on the Governor’s despatch, telegraphed to the ‘Star,’ have created considerable sensation. A petition for the Governor’s recall is talked of. Napibr, October 17. t The Agricultural Show on next Thursday and Friday bids fair to be a great success. There is a large number of entries. Great interest is being taken in the harbor works. The contractors are proceeding slowly with the work. Lawrkkcb, October 18. At the Cricket Club meeting, last night, it was agreed to accept the challenge by the Dunedin Club. Several parties are out on the Old Man Range prospecting for quartz reefs, and others are preparing for a start. Messrs Fraer and Herbert have been appointed lay representatives from here for the forthcoming Synod. Quartz containing 17ozs. of gold to the ton' has been discovered at the Nil Desperandum claim, Waipori. There is great excitement in consequence. The claim, which has been turning out payable quartz for the last two years, adjoins the Waipori Gold-mining Company’s lease. The crushing was made at the claimholders’ (Messrs Thompson and party) own battery. The weather is cloudy, and there is indicatien of rain, which is much wanted.
