AQUATICS.

The boating season of 1876-7 was fairly opened this afternoon, when the harbor presented quite a lively appearance. Fifteen boats took part in the opening procession—viz., the commodore's crew of eight men:" the. Bowing Club's crew of eight men; the Naval Brigade's pinnace with six men; eight four-oared crews; two two-oared crews: and two canoes. The procession left the end of the Jetty street wharf at three o'cloak tun., and proceeded in the follewing order : Flag-boat, Union, Excelsior, Otago Sowing Club, Dunedin Bowing. Club, Telegraph, &c. A number of scratch matches were afterwards improvised and closely contested. A very large number of the public took advantage of the fine weather and witnessed the afternoon's sports. Judging by the very creditable turn-out of boats this afternoon, a good season's boating may be anticipated.
