Bhe left Hokitika at midnight on Sunday last, thus making the run acrosß in exaotly {our days, which is excellent time.

ABBIVAL OF THE ATTSTBALIA.

Tho 8.8. Australia arrived off the heads shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday, and the Iron Age, which had been chartered for the conveyance of her mails to (he port was in attendance, as also the large life boat belonging to the pilot station, which transhipped the mails fironi the big ship to the tender. As soon as the nails 'were on board, the Age re. turned to port, but too late to catch the 6 pm. train, so that the mails were forwarded to Dunedin by the 7.40 p.m. train. The Australia cleared Sydney Heads at 4 p.m. on the 22nd ult., experienced strong winds from N.E. to E. until the 25th, thenoa strong gale with head sea until arriving nt Kandavau at 7 a.m. on the' 29th.; at 1 p.m. on same day the City of Sydney arrived from New Zealand; after receiving Australian mails, passengers, and cargo, left for San Francisco at 6.20 p.m. On the 4th inat. the Cit v of New York arrived from Ban Francisco, and, after transhipping mails, passengers, and cargo to the Australia, left for Sydney at 2 p.m. The Australia left at the same time for Auckland, arriving there at 3.30 a.m. onthe Bth, having made a fine run from Eandavau of three days thirteen and a-half hours. The run from Lytteltonto Qtago Heads was made in a little over fourteen hours. She crossed the bar this forenoon in charge of Pilot Kelly, and anchored off tho Quarantine Ground at 10.80 a in.
