THE ROSLYN MEETING.

To I7ie Editor.

Sib,—ln reference to a statement in last evening's Star to the effect that Mr Chia. holm had accused your reporter of not giving correctly the result of the voting at the Roslyn Hall meeting the other evening, I beg to state that your reporter was perfectly correct. I was at the meeting, and knowing of the unfair and unjust way in which these provincial meetings are worked,. I (in conjunction with a gentleman who was sitting beside me) took the trouble to count the number of hands heJd up, and we both counted the same number, viz., thirty, three for the resolution and thirty-two for the amendment. I aay take leave to mention that after the commencement a few of the promoters of the meeting observing that a numberof their opponents had unexpectedly put m an appearance, went out, and hunted up a large number of their supporters and had it not been for this the Provincialists would have been a long wav in the minority But this is exactly in keeping with all the other proceedings of the small band of Democrats w ho are stump ing the country and presuming to call them, selves the people of Otago. However thev may work as they like, but truth and justice will carry the day in the long run, although perhaps, deception and iujustice may appear to be victorious for a while.—l am, fco, ™ j. «, , Justice. Dunedin, Ootober 11.
