WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present Messrs Strode (in the chair), Bastings, Butterworth, and Clarke. The following is the more important business transacted:—

Mr A. M'Gillivray’s application for a lease of Bush Reserve, section 59, block 8, Dunedin and East Taieri, was referred to the Ranger to report. The Board granted the request of Mr D. Campbell to purchase part of section 50, block 2, Maungatua, without any conditions as to proceeds being spent for roads, it having no power to impose such conditions. The upset price of section 2, block 22, Tapanui Town extension, was fixed, as requested by Mr A. Allan, at L2 per acre. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr J. J. Hubert, applied to fence a road in front of school site, and for a license to occupy section 27, block 8, Crookstown, until the laud is wanted. No opposition offered and no pei mission given. Messrs Connell and Moodie applied to purchase part of section 5, block 7, Waipahee. Government to be asked to request the Board's engineer to report. The Board after considering the subject of preventing mining on the unsurveyed parts of Cromwell town reserve referred the matter to the Deputy-Commissioner of Crown Lands to take action therein if he deem such advisable.

Mr C. Hilgendorf applied to lease a small piece of Crown land between bleck 24, Waihola, and the sea beach, and also a part of Goat Island. To be notified in the ‘ Gazette’ that a lease will be granted of the first on November 8, provided no valid objection be lodged meanwhile. A strip of Crown land at Oamaru, between sections 1 and 2 of 57, block 4, and high water mark was leased to the Municipal Council for seven years at LI per annum. Mr C. Falconer’s application to purchase forty acres of sections 31 and 32, bush reserve, Akatore, was refused. The Lawrence District Land Officer reported that he valued sections 2 and '3, block 1., Tuapeka East, at 50a per acre; improvements by James O’Brien and Josiah Mee at L2O each; and by Mr Ryder at L 6. Approved.

Tlie Chief Surveyor assessed run 468 to carry 250 sheep, ana fixed the upset price at l-16tbs of Id per acre. Mr Muir, for Messrs Dick and Richardson, applied to lease area of Crown lands lying outside northern boundary of sections 1 of 20 and 2 of 20, block 3, and section 45, block 9, Moeraki and seabeach, to enable applica/its to mine for coal on their property adjoining. Ranger to report.
