ABOUT THE LOBBIES.
{From our own Correspondent), October 9.
The following telegram, addressed to the Hon. the Secretary of State for the Colonies, London, and dated October 7,1876, has been sent by Sir G. Grey. A copy was sent to the Governor, and laid on the table by Ministers :—“I dutifully refer to my letter of the sth June. The Government determines to enforce the Abolition Act without consulting the Provincial Legislatures, and against the wish of Provinces containing more than one-half of the whole population of the Colony, twothirds or the Natives included. Disturbance is imminent. Some threaten the employment of the Queen’s ships. I earnestly pray you to telegraph, to prevent disturbances, that the Abolition Act should be disallowed if the Provincial Legislatures are not consulted.—(Signed) G. Grey, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.” The Financial Statement will be delivered to-night.
