PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.

, The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held on Monday evening, when there were present—The Mayor, Crs. M'Kinlay, M'Gregor, Asher, Reid, Graham, tfnd Miller.

Among the correspondence read were letters from the Corporation Solicitor in reference to the leases, and advising the Connell to defer making the road past Wickliffe terrace until the passing of the Municipal Bill now before the Assembly; and from Messrs Sievwrkht and Stout in reference to the riparian rights of Mr M'Dermid, informing the Council that that gentleman was still willing to refer his claims to arbitration or to a jury, or to accept a reasonable proposal for compensation. Messrs Bright Bros., and Co., wrote intimating that the hose for the Fire Brigade had been degmtehed by the late San Francisco mail, eeeived.

The Finance Committee reported recommending Mr E. Campbell’s claim for LIOO for inspection of waterworks should be referred to Mr Blair, as consulting Engineer, and that before extreme measures were taken for recovering overdue rates that the dierk make personal application for the same during the present week. Cr. Graham s motion—“ That the minute In reference to Mr Harris’s claim be rescinded,” was carried.

It was resolved that the Mayor and Cr. Asher should wait upon the General Manager of Railways in reference to the erection 3 of latrines, &0., at the railway pier, and the clerk was instructed to write to Mr A. Johnson requesting him to remove the tramway in Beach street without delay.
