GIFT COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of this body yesterday afternoon was attended by the Mayor, Councillors Walter, Fish, Thomson, Campbell, Grant, Isaac, Roberts, Woodland, and Mollison, The Towsr Clerk read a report of the results of the mission of himself and Cr. . Walter to Wellington, the following being a summary of it:— With regard to the Corporation's Municipal Bill, that Mr Stoat, who had charge of it, did not ente>any hope that it won d become law during the present session, bat In view of the great probability of the general measure of the Government becoming law care had been taken to introduce into it clauses to reserve to the Dnned n Corporation the mil borrowing powers already granted, and the City reserves gensr-lly. Mr Stoat has given sotise to enable any municipality to come under the operation of any separate part or parts of the Government Bill, but did not feel contdont that this preposition will be ogreed to. In inference to the Wharves and Quays Reserve, the report, after acknowledging the valuable assistance ef Messrs Reynolds and Stout, wont on to say;— ** Snocess has not attended onr efforts, bnt against aoeh odds as the Otago country members, it was not possible to ensure that success, deserved and eytmnble though it be.” The report also mentioned that the General Government had promised to in4mduee a Bill to complete the arrangements for closing Gaol street. THE FEVER HOSPITAL. Cr. Fish moved the following icsolutions, standing in his namelst. That in the 2inion oi this Council, it is desirable that a Fever Hospital should be abolished as •Ban as possible. 2nd. That with a view of giving effect to the foregoing, no more Stienta be received into the Hospital after is date. 3rd. That the Health Officer and Sanitary Inspectors be directed as soon as practicable to direct their attention solely ta those duties for which they were primarily appointed. After considerable discussion, the first and third resolutions were carried, Che second being negatived. CORPORATION RESERVES. Mr Isaac’s motion That in the opinion ef this Council it is not desirable that any paid! servant or officer of this Corporation •honld be allowed to hold any honorary public position, unless by consent of the Council” —was carried. The rest of the business was unimportant.
