THE HARBOR BOARD.
A special meetiug, held this forenoon, was attended by Messrs Keeves (in the chair), Tewsley M'Neil, Ritchie, Davie, and M'Kinnon. The Superintendent entered the Board-room shortly after the proceedings commenced. The following telegram from the Minister of Public "Works to the chairman of \hn Board was read: " The Government has considered your telegram of last nighr, aud regret they cannot in the present position of affairs direct Mr Blackett to proceed to Dunedin. The scheme, as a whole, has already been approved by the Governor, and whenever the details are submitted under the Act they will be immediately dealt with ; and in the meantime it is obvious that any interference by Mr Blackett, in the direction you ask, would place him in a wrong position with the Government."
After considerable discussion, the Board by three to two instructed Mr Simpson to submit the details of his plan to Mr BJackett, in terms of tho Act, and that he and Mr Gillies should return forthwith to Dunedin. In the course of his remarks his Honor expressed regret that a portion of the Board should have lost confidence in its engineer, and he counselled that that matter should be fought out once and for all.
