Christchurch, September 28. Roberts gave Weston 550 points out of 1,000 last night, and beat him by 94. Roberts made a break of 299, and Weston followed immediately afterwards with a break of 82. Roberts pocketed the red ball no less than 94 consecutive times. To-i:ight he again plays Weston, giving him 450, but the spot stroke is barred to the champion. Mr Bennett, agent for the All England Eleven, will interview the Secretary of the Cricket Club here to-day, to try aud make arrangements for a match.
Wellington, September 28. Sir Julius Vogel has postponed his departure for a week, his health not permitting his leaving by the Uingarooma.
Wanoanui, September 28. The Hon. Mr Fox has a majority over Mr Morgan in the different polling-places. According to the returns in Mr Fox has 252 votes, and Mr Morgan 154. Mr Fox is certain of return by a large majority.
Westport, September 28. Last night's gaje again stranded the s.s. Matau, previously afloat, knocking her about considerably. The insurance representatives are expected per steamer Murray, aud then it will be decided whether to abandon her or not.
Auckland, September 27. A sly-grog seller named Rae, keeping a boarding-house next Manukau Onehunga, was dropped on severely. Two policemen boarded there incog on service of summons. Rae is supposed to have bolted south, but was fined LIOO aud a warrant issued.
