THE GREEN ISLAND TOLLBAR.

A deputation waited upon bis Honor the DeputySuperintendent this morning, constating of Messrs J. J. Eagerty (Mayor). Stoddart, T. Howorth. Wallace, and other residents in the Green Island district, with referenoe to the proposed removal of the Hillside tollbar te Green Island. Mr Eagsbtt said the residents considered the erection of the tollbar a hardship to them in mtty ways, and at a public meeting held at Green Island last evening and attended by over 100 people a resolution was passed that it was not desk 1 ' able that the proposed removal should he carried out. Tkey had taxed themselves heavily in years past, and had made good.roads for themselves, and they now decidedly ©bjested to this fresh tax being placed on them. At present people could come all the way from CatH**s Ei x&t without.paying toll, and they thought Ifcia toll-bar should be abolished altogetb er, as was done in the ease of Anderson's Bay and other bars. The only result of removing it to Green Island would be that the toll, would be evaded, as that could Ae done by going a few miles round. r^ His Hovoa aaid the Government were merely ac s n ?^ at I tbe "Vast o' the Provincial Couneu. which had resolved that ah toll-bars near DuneuM be removed toa convenient distanoe from the town boundaries.
