Christchubch, September 20:* f The Jockey Club here have expressed approval of the action of the Auckland Jockey Club re the proposed conference of racing clubs.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Spinning and Weaving Company; yesterday resolutions were passed authorising the directors to borrow money on mortgage, to extend the operations of the company. >' ■ •A rate'of Is in the pound is at once to be struck for educational purposes; General dissatisfaction is felt thereat.
The boating season opens on the 7th prox. with a procession of boats. ;In consequence of the great success of the last poultry show, it is intended that it shall last three days in future.
Wellington, September 20. , In consequence of the high price of labor at Auckland, and the heavy railway charges on the line pf railway r frbm Newmarket to Auckland, the contractor for the Auckland docks has found it more profitable to obtain the necessary stone from Melbourne,' where he has entered into a contract for obtaining about L 30,000 worth of stone, of the same quality as that which could be quarried at Newmarket or Rangitbto.
