Christchurch, September 12, The Lingards, supported by Miss Colville, opened to a splendid house with “Our Boys.” The audience was very enthusiastic, and the performance has been most favorably criticised.
Companies have been formed to work the Malvern Hills fire clay and Mount Grey limestone.
It is rumored on goodauthoiity that whan the Hon. E. Richardson resigns he will be appointed Commissioner of Pail ways. Tbe rumor gives great satisfaction hero, and it is hoped that his head office will be in Christchurch.
At a meeting of the Chairmen of the North Canterbury Road Boards it was resolved that the Province be divided into two Counties only—the southern boundary of the Northern County to be the south branch of the Wairaakariri, north boundary to extend as far into Nelson and Marlborough, as their interests are identical with those of Canterbury.
