RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Toesday, September 12. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.)
Drunkenness. —William Ballantiue, for this offence, was fined 10s, or, in default, twenty-four hours’ imprisonment; and an additional fine of 10s was imposed on him for damaging the arresting constable’s uniform.
Absent without Leave.— William Garton, carpenter of the Norval, pleaded guilty to absenting himself from tho ship without leave. The Bench sentenced him to fourteen days’ hard labor, tho captain to have the option of taking him on board if the vessel sailed before the expiration cf Ids sentence. CIVIL CASES. C. Cameron v. R. Hawker.—Claim, L 7 4s, for goods supplied. The Magistrate adjourned the case, in order that defendant might produce his witnesses. W. Grad well v. A. W. Johnson.—Claim, Ll4 4s, for quarrying. After hearing the evidence, his Worship nonsuited the plaintiff, in order that he might, if he wished, procure the services of a professional man. [Left sitting.;
