To the Editor, '

Sir, Our attention having been drawn to a paragraph in your paper of the Ist instant, in which' a Mr Harvey, solicitor, of Invercargill, is stated to have made some very severe remarks respecting Dunedin contractors during the hearing of a small debt case at Invercargill, in which a storekeeper had supplied goods to men employed by the contractors lor , the Wiqton and Kingston Bail way, and as we finished V contract on the said line of railway some ninths ago, and not at present subscribing to any of the Southland' papers, perhaps you will oblige by stating who were the plaintiff and defendants in the case alluded to, where it is stated that “Mr Harvey said he would hot trust his own brother if he wore a Dunedin contractor, without having him bound down in black and white.’' ; We may inform Mr Harvey that there are Dunedin contractors, as he calls them, quite as honorable and trustworthy as himself, and th' 4 when nejet he indulges, jn such remarks ho will content hlmsoif with throwing ■ns abuse at those who have given him cause, and pot at a whole class.-We are, &c., Procter and Whittaker. Dunedin, Sept. 4.

[The parties in the case referred to were Cameron v. ’Vatson. We are informed that the defendant had no claim to bo regarded as a Dunedin contractor, his operations hitherto having been confined to the Tokomairiro and Clutha districts.— Ed. E.S.]
