The annual meeting of the West Taieri Road Board was held at the Schoolhouse, Berwick, on Saturday, 3rd inst., when there were present Messrs Duff (chairman), Sutherland, Elliott, MTherson, M‘Leod, A. Mann, and Petrie, The resignation of Mr Cumin s as member of the Board was accepted, and Mi' James Grey, of Waihola West, elected in his place. Mr Petrie was elected troaturer, vice Mr Cumine resigned ; Mr Twelvetrees dork and collector, vice Mr James, who resigned after holding that position for the last six years. The rate for tfie coming year was fixed at Is in the £, one month from date. The valuation of Mr Ferguson, of Waipori, was reduced LSO. Objections to tbe rate by Messrs Wilson, Edmond, George and John Macdonald were received, but it was decided to uphold the valuation in these cases. Two new culverts were ordered to be built on the main road near Woodside. Permission was given to Mr Heenan (Maungatua) and Mr Sutherland (Clarendon) to erect swing-gates on district roads. A deputation was appointed to wait on tbe Outram Road Board to take action about road from Berwick to Henley. Tbe weather has been very fine for some time, and a large amount of ground has in consequence been sown. A very large proportion of wheat has been sown this year, compared with previous years. A concert was given on Friday in the schoolhouse, Outram, by the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Society, at which several amateurs from Dunedin assisted. The programme was lengthy and varied, the singing being very good. The attendance, however, was not large. A strong gale of wind was blowing on Sunday, while a heavy fall of rain on the plain and snow on the mountains were ex perienced last night.
