HOCKEY.
An interesting and exciting match at this most popular game was played on. Saturday afternoon, between tbs English and Scotch members of tbe JDunedin Hockey Club. Flay commenced at 3.30 by the Scottish captain hitting off (against t le wind), and when half-time was called at 4.30, no goal bad been obtained by either side. On goals being changed and the game resumed, the straggle became hot and' determined, the ball been kept principally in the English quarter. A few minutes before five o'clock, J. C. Thomson made a clever catch 15 yards from the English posts, but in toying at goal he missed his hit, when there was a general scrimmage, the result being that the ball was worked over tie goal line amidst universal shouting and excitement, and bad it •rot been for an unfortunate accident, by which one of the Scottish team was rather severely injured, and by reason of which play was discontinued, a goal would probably have been scored by the Scots. The captains of the respective sides, however, agreed on making a drawn game of it, deciding to play it out next Saturday, when it is to be hoped no unfriendly fracas may occur.
