A discussion has been carried on for some ime in the Southland papers as to the dura >ihty of some of the railway bridges in that part of the Province. Mr Brunton make: the latest contribution, in which he invites criticism of the two bridges of his own lesign across the Mimihau and Wyndham; but as to the railway bridges, he says he " simply carried out their construction ac cording to .plans and specifications sent mc direct from Wellington, and is not inclined to father any responsibility as to the suitableness."
The late Lord A., who was delightfully odd. met the proud Earl of D. at Aloupk*, Piitict Wpronzow's jalace on the Eunhie, and 1). who was with an amazing quantity of consequence, said, in referring to some scene of English home life, " I was obliged to assert my dignity, for the fellows had found out who [ was." The wit looked up absently from hi." cavime, and rejoined, "Ah ! And who were you?"
