THE N.E. VALLEY ROAD BOARD.
• To the Editor.
Sir,—l find from last night's Stab that " A Ratepayer" is dissatisfied with the procedure of the North-East Valley Road Board, and with you in not reporting the Board's business. If this sensitive individual was present at the last meeting of the Board why did he not furnish you with what he would style a correct report, and put his name to it ? It is possiblo he may be one of the many who would like the Board to continue to run into debt and to spend any sum he might choose to name for his immediate I benefit, regardless of how it may be paid. Owing to the many townships in the dis-' tribt, the demand for increased road-making is much greater than the increase of rates. The estimated rate for the current year is a little over.LTOO ; but the demand for roads, Ac, is so great that LIO.OOO a year would scarcely meet them ; and when some are refused, everything done is wrong and " A Ratepayer " dissatisfied. If your correspondent wishes the Board to do better in the future he cannot do better than lend a helping hand and assist in providing more funds to satisfy his requirements, insto d of wishing to be relieved from paying his fair share of-the district burden ; and when he does that the-Board wi'l vote him a leather medal.—l am, fro., Hugh M'Fayden, Clerk to the Board. Dunedin, August 24."
