THE SUBMARINE CABLE.
Sydney, August 25. It is understood that the Governor has received a despatch stating that a war between England and Russia was imminent. The City of Sydney, with the outward mail, sailed for Kandavu at 3 p.m. The captain of the schooner Vibiiia writes denying the statement made in the Auckland papers by the mate of the same vessel. Melbourne, August 26. Two men were arrested yesterday on the arrival of the Somersetshire, from London, on account of the great jewel robbery. A telegram dated August 12 reports that Devoe's kerosene has risen to 24c; and on the 16tb, that all sugars have further advanced LI.
