THE WESTERN RAILWAYS ARBITRATION CASE.
Mr W. N. Blair, who was appointed arbitrator for the dispute on the Western Railways, made his award last evening, by which it appears the Provincial Govcrumenare indebted to Mr D. Proudfoot in the sum of L 51,569 19s Bd. Nearly eight*, sittings have been held, at whi-.-h Mi D. Reid has represented the Government, and Mr Proudfoot has conducted bis own case. The Government take over the works as from April 14 last, and the award is made up as follows : —Award for works and plant, 146,670 16s 6d; interest for payments wrongfully withheld, L 780; damages for delays, L 85 0; value at schedule rates for plant and materials, 126,558 ; value of plaut and material landed at the Bluff, L 5,340; coats of arbitration to be paid by the Government, 11,371 3s 2d.
