Wellington, August 3. In reply to inquiries by this Government, the New South Wales Government telegraphs that no further action has been taken in re a second cable for European communication, because no answer has yet been received from the Victorian Government.
August 4. The Government have received the following cable message from Sydney, dated August 4: a The steamer Ly-ee-moon left Banjoewangi atSp.m. on July 29, and arrived at Port Darwin yesterday afternoon. She has been detained waiting for messages by the French mail, and has also been detained on the passage by the south-east monsoon and exceedingly strong current all the way. The officer in charge of the- Lv-ee-moon reports that telegraphic communication has been interrupted via Siberia by floods since July 19,=' an d there is no probability of its being restored at present. The majority of the telegrams sent by the Ly-ee-moon report that a steamer was leaving Penangon Jniy 26th, and that they do not expect replies from London much under a fortnight. There is no news of importance from Europe. {From our oun Correspondent.) Mosgiel, August 3. The Taieri Derby Ploughing M»tch is postponed till to-morrow.
