Drunkenness.—-Michael Fahey, an old: offender, was fined 40s, or fourten day/ imprisonment ; and Robert Thompson, who still appeared to be laboring from the effects of drink, ss, or twenty-four hours'. C. W., Blair, Peter Poleskey, and Geo. H. Stevens, - as it was their first offences, and not being, rowdy when arrested, were discharged. MAixrENANCE. —Matthew Clydesdale was charged with not contributing towards the support of his wife and children. An order had been granted by Mr Bathgate, R.M., some time since, and now there was Ll3, due. Complainant said that she maintained* herself and children by doing washing. believed her husband had been doing work? occasionally, but that he was a very intern-i perate man. —Their Worships thought that": defendant ought to be ashamed of himsefT when he knew that his wife had to slave the support of their children while he did not contribute anything; and as he had noproperty upon which a levy could be ob-~ tained, he was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment.

Assault.—Edward Pritchardwas charged by David Green with having, on the Ist August, unlawfully assaulted him. From Green's evidence it appeared that he proceeded to Pritchard's shop, according to orders he received from his master (Mr M'Donald, livery stable-keeper) to obtain a horse and harness. Pritchard refused to give them, and a quarrel ensued, in. which complainant sai he was struck over the mouth. —Defendant denied having struck the alleged blow, and produced two of his employees as witnesses, from whose statements it seemed no assault whatever had taken place.—Their Worships thought that there was an ill-feeling existing between the t<vo parties, and dismissed the case; complainant to pay the costs of Court.
