THE KAIKORAI RAILWAY.
To the Editor. Sib, —I observe a petition is being got up by the residents in the Kaikorai district and the various townships betwen Roslyn' and Maori Hill, in the vicinity of Dunedin, for presentation to the General ABsemby, requesting that steps may betaken for the construction of a branch railway up the Kaikorai valley as far as Maori Bill. It is intended also that at some future time it should if practicable—be taken round by the Nirth East Valley, joining the Port line, thus making a complete circuit of the City. Ab a railway is now being formed to the Ocean Beach and Anderson's Bay it is a matter of vital importance to the Kaikorai distri.-t, and particularly to the Hill (where the population is much larger), that steps should be taken as soon as possible for the formation of the proposed railway, and consequently every person interested in the district should append hiß name to the petition which is now being e numerously signed. It may however happen that the Assembly at this session may not sanction the railway, but if the people will have patience and perseverance they are bouhd to succeed.—d am, &c, _., ' . LIKDEK. Kaikorai, August 2.
