THE MAYORAL ELECTION.
To the Editor. Sib, There are a few statements in u Citizen’s ” letter that are false and ought to be corrected. Mr Reeves is not the individual to be thanked for the successful carrying out of the purchase of the Waterworks. Our thanks are due to Messrs Ramsay, Fish, and Isaac for that success. Mr Reeves was not the person that suggested the new water van. For some time the Council had been at their wits’ end as to how the watering of the streets should be done, and at the same time economize the water. Tho Works Committee brought up a suggestion and a sketch of tho new cart taken from the ‘ Illustrated Loudon News ’ by Mr Mirams. Messrs Prosser, Mercer, and Reck were then on the committee which brought down a report and rcnoiumeded the Council to provide a v,-u ; aud after due deliberation by the whole Council tenders were called tor one. Although Mr Reives was chairman of the meeting, he certainly was not the man who proposed it or took more interest in it than his co-workers on the committee.—l am, &c., An Ex-Covnctm.ob. Dunedin, July 29.
