CITY POLICE COURT.

Friday, July 28. (Before E. ff. Ward, Esq., and A. Mercer, Esq., J.P.'s.) Mr Ward expressed hia satisfaction at their being no drunken cases to deal with. Obscene Language. Dinah Brooks charged Wm. Wheeler with having, on the 25th infct., used .uisulting language towards he.—Defendant denied having used the words alleged by complainant. Their V> orships dismissed the case.

Child Maintenance.—Margaret Babbit v. John King was a claim fos the support of an illegitimate child. Mr Barton, who appeared for the plaintiff, stated that he wa3 now in a position to produce the corroborative evidence required on the last hearing of the case ; and, on his calling Jane Edmonds, the fact was elicited from the well-known Wm. Lloyd that her "old man wouldu't let her come."--As this witness's tion-appear-auce necessitated auother adjournment, Mr "Douniston, who appeared for deiendant, stated that this made the third time the case had been adjourned, for tlie convenience of complainant, and asked tbat his client be allowed expenses -Their Worships adjourned the case till Tuesday next, when they hoped that the sase would be dethutely settled. They would the* take into Consideration expenses.

Wrongful Dismissal. —Wm. Fdward Couch was charged, on the information of Peter Ryan, seaman, with wrongfully dismissing him. Mr Mouat for plaintiff; and Mr Denniston for defendant. After hearing the evidence of plaintiff and the chief mate, the case was withdrawn, their Worships being divided in opinion.
