THE POULTRY ASSOCIATION

: To the Editor.

Sib, I read with feelings of pity, strongly mingled with contempt, the utterly inconsequent reply of " O." to "A Breeder's " letter.. Calling "A Breeder" a mal-content is scarcely to the point, without saying a word aa to its civility; and then, if l remember rightly; "A Breeder", never said that "Wright's Book," is not "generally accepted as an impiovement on Tegetmeir." Then, again, the fact of the last show-being so great a success, although " Wright's Book " was not ; the standard on that occasion, proves "G.V next statement to be without.foundation. I heartily agree with " A Breeder " that'due notice of the change of standard has not been given. No one knew anything about the matter excepting, it = mjght be, the new committee, and i J j is quite certain that, having been elected only a week or two ago, they could not have had even their wisdom very long. I find on looking over the names of the committee that only six were on the committee last year; and two out of that six were then on for the first time; the remainder, I believe, have .been on from the foundation of the society.'' Perhaps "C." is one of them ; if so, it is quite possible to understand and appreciate the honesty and wisdom on which he plumes himself at their proper value. With regard to the sneers " C." indulges in about "A Breeder's" old stock, the l«fg& said the better. I know one gentleman who has imported a very fine bird from Victoria, another who has received two pairs at a cast of about LIS, also from Victoria ; another ■who has received from America some of the best stock that could be there obtained ; and all since last sh?w. Now, sir, the efi'ect of thi» alteration of standard is to these gentlemen that the trouble and expense they have been at is completely thrown away. " A Breeder," and it is quite possible many others, may be in the same position as the above, and I think you will see that we have some little reason to "snarl" at the action of the committee.—l am, &c, Ose of TiiK.Ar. Dunedin, July 27.
