Resolved, on the motion of Cr. M'Geeqor, that a d'.'vni'aticu consisting of the Mayor and Cr. Asher, wait upon Mr G. Brodrick in reference to the same. —Pr jxn the Corporation Solicitor recommending the Council to settle Mr C. Harris's application for reimbursement in comwction with injuries received through fall in? over metal left on footpath. Proposed by Cr. M'Kinlat, seconded by Cr. M'Greoob, that the account be paid. After considerable discussion, the following amendment by Cr. Ashbb, seconded by Cr. Rkid, was oar-ne-1:—" rhat the Clerk write to Mr Harris informing him that the Council cannot recognise the claim.—From Mr M. M'Namm, offering L 8 rer annum for a piece of ground in Macandrew Terrace, close to Boiler Point.—From Mr Buzaud, offering LI per annum for sectian 9, Town Belt. Both applications were referred to the Reserves Committee.—From the Corporation solicitor, in reTereace to signing <?eed of confirmation re large quarry. From Mr Crawshaw, contractor for Waterworks, in reference to progress payment of L 1,532 7b. Cr Asher proposed, and Cr M'Kinlat seconded, "That debentures to the amount be prepared and handed over to Mr Crawshaw. Amendment by Cr Min-sa, seconded by Cr M'Greoob, "That the debentures be retained until the pipes have been tested and proved by the engineer.' 5 After IconskWable discussion the amendment was carried, and it was resolved that the clerk write to the engineer for a certificate that the pipes have been tested.—From Mr J. Maoleay, enclosing claim for L4ofor compensation for water-rights as per agreement. Referred to "Water Works Committee. Crs .Asher and M'Kinlay requested that the notices of motion standing in their names lie over until next meeting. Agreed to. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Mitnslatjs that tenders be called for carting for six months, and that time for tendei-s for timber on the Town Belt be extended fop one month. The clerk was instructed to write to Messrs Aiien and Kingstreet in reference to the eareless manner in which blasting operations hare latel been carried on.
The Matob stated that this being the last meeting of the present Council, he wished to thank the Councillors for their attendance and the courteous conduct shown toward > him during the last year, i»ud as ho had again been elected, he h'.ped the new Council would work with as much good-will as the previous one had done. A vote of thanks to Mayor was given by the Councillors, and the mooting adjourned.
