Napier, July 11. The Harbor Board meeting re elected Mr Ormond chairman unanimously. The question of a light at the Spit was referred to Messrs Kennedy aud Vautier to report upon at next meeting. The question was raised whether Mr Kennedy was entitled to hold his seat, he‘being a pait proprietor of the ‘Telegraph’ newspaper, in which the Board’s advertisements appear and arc paid for, No war arrived a.t.
Cimonseu’s Company are drawing good, but not overflowing bouses.
Gbahamstown, July 11. There was acoufereuce of Bprqttgh Councillors and Chairmen of Highway Boards today. A telegram from the M.H.R. was discussed. The telegram referred to the Local Rating Bill, and stated that provision was introduced exempting mining property from local rates. A long discus ion ensued, during which it was stated that Sir G. Grey was the author of the clause exempting mining property. Ultimately a resolution was carried to the effect that this meeting is of opinion that mining property should remain as heretofore, and that it would be impolitic and unjust to exempt it from rates. ‘ July 12.
A severe gale last night from the N.E. caused a good deal of damage. The framework of the new Congregational Church was blown clown, eutailing a loss of L2CO. The Orange Lodges celebrate their anniversary by a soiree to-night.
Auckland, July 12. The Kingitc Natives have got a printing plant, and intend to start a newspaper. A letter signed by eight Kingitcs has been sent to the ‘ Herald ’ stating that Todd’s murderer was at Kaipati when Sir I). M*Lean arrived, and he remained there till the Native Minister left for Auckland.

The jury in the Riordan inquiry case returned a verdict that the fire originated in the cupboard under the stairs, but that there was no evidence to show how.
