CITY COUNCIL.
The Council met this afternoon; present —the Mayor and all the Councillors, except Mr Reves.
Before the balloting out of a Councillor for each Ward, Crs. Chapman and Brown expressed a desire that they might be amongst the number, as their private engagements did not permit their attendance at the Council's meeting. The result of the ballot was that the following were selected :—South Ward, Cr. J. T. Roberts : High Ward, Cr. F. Chapman ; Bell Ward, Cr. R. H. Leary (at his own request); Leith Ward, Cr. C. S. Reeves (in view of that gentleman's standing for the Mayoralty). The Under-Secretary wrote that the Government had agreed to give an equivalent in land for the sections desired to be exchanged by the Council; each appointing a valuator. Agreed to. The Princes street Reserve tenants wrote accepting the Council's offer of a lump sum of L 2.000 for their frontages. The Council then agreed to extend the time from August 1 to September 1.
