TREACHERY.

To the Editor.

Sib, —You are aware that the object oi good Templary is the complete suppression of the liquor traffic as the greatest evil that afflicts society. All Good Templars who are honest, andjfaithful to their “ obliga tions ” are doing what they can to remove that cause of so much human misery. Bat there is treachery in the little camp here. The loudest leaders are known to be traitors. They make nice speeches to deceive their poor dupes of brethren and sisters. Where are their efforts against the enemy ? They assume to be leaders in the lodges, where they can do so privately and safely. They know very well that this question can only be settled at the ballot-box. There is where the temperance battle has to be fought, and the glorious victory won. But what are those treacherous hypocrites doing towards that end ? Nothing except in one or two little prints. By the assistance of Good Templars the present Mayor (a liquor dealer) was elected, and it is pretty well understood that they are to vote for him again. Temperance men voting for a “rumaeller I” Some people desire to know what all this means. Shau e on such inconsistency ! It is bad enough to see Dunedin electing a liquor-seller for Mayor, and a Christian Church renting him ‘an hotel. Even the architect and builder of Mr Walter's new hotel are said to be Good Templars. There appears to be a very friendly feeling indeed between the temperance man and liquor men of this City. Is it right for those “ringites ” to be going about abusing privately those who merely desire to expose their rascality for the good of the Order and the 'sabred cause ®f temperance? Let a committee of hoaeat non-office holders be formed at once to investigate these charges, so'. that unworthy mem' era, big and little, who are disgracing Good Templary here may be expelled immediately. -1 am, &0., Pro- Bono Publico. Dunedin, June 27.
