WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day; present—The Chief Commissioner chair), Messrs Butterworth, Clark, Strode, and Reid.
Mr Robert Dunlop applied for section 6, block 2, Slopedown district, on deferred payments opened by proclamation, dated 12th May, 1876, in 'Gazette' of 31st May. Received.
Mr Anthony Milligan applied to purchase part of the Hawksbury Bush Reserve, section 77, block 5. Government has already been asked to cut up the reserve into sections for sale. Applicant to be informed of refusal by the Board. Mr Robert Robertson's application for a lease of section 4 of 39, block 2, Maungatua district, licensed to Mr John Lawson under the 161st clause of the Act, was refused.
The petition of Roxburgh residents, that the application by Mr Andrew Nelson for a lease of five acres north of section 34, block 2, Tevibt district, for coal-mining, be granted, was considered. Mr F. H. Evans supported the application; Mr John Cargill opposed. The application was refused.
Mr J. S. Webb, on behalf of Mr Morgan, of Oamaru, asked that at the forthcoming sale of Deborah township section 47, block 4, may be offered along with section 48, and subject to the same conditions; Mr Mor gan's valuations for improvements being charged at sale. Refused. Mr Henry Coates requested permission to erect a shed at Otafello Point, Lower Harbor, for the purpose of storing provisions. No objection.
The following applications to purchase under agricultural leases were approved : D. M. Mackay, section 84, blocK 5, Shotover district ; John Laxton, section 11, block 18, Shotover.
The following application to exchange agricultural for deferred payment lease was «»»»~»«J-.—7p>~_£-«/vlail oftetinna 31 and 40, block 1, Mid-Wakatip district. - - The District Land Officer, Invercargill, forwarded an interim certificate in favor of John O'Leary for section 3, block 1, Waikaka district. Messrs Macassey and Kettle applied that- the matter be adjourned for a week. The application was refused, and the interim certificate cancelled. Land to be for application in the usual manner.
William Snow, John Drummond, and Francis M'Murtrie asked permission to purchase part of Belistreet and a small part of reserve opposite block 11, Outram. Referred to Hanger for report. Mrs Goodall wrote stating her willingness to transfer her right to deferred payment lands at Hawea to Mr M'Kae. Noted.
Messrs David Rees and John M'lntyre lodged objection to the land in block 1, Waitahuna West (sections 1 and 2, and part 30 and 31), being sold on the ground of their being auriferous. Postponed. Mr H. L. Squires, on behalf of a flour mill company, applied for license under the 91st clause of the Act to occupy two roods adjoining the reservoir reserve, Lawrence, for the purpose of erecting a mill thereon. Warden Carew recommended that the application be not granted until a company be actually formed. Application refused. A petition of settlers at Tuapeka Mouth that the Board would have the part of the Dalhousie township reserve* around the dwellings cut up into acre allotments for sale was read, t hey also asked that the mining reserve adjoining that river may not be leased to the runholder.. Postponed. The Chief Commissioner requested the Board to consent to the alteration of blocks 1 and 3, Hamilton township, these numbers having been transferred on selection and lithograph maps. Granted. Messrs Sievwright and Stout, on behalf of Gideon-A. Smith, applied for a license to occupy fifty acres of the mining reserve, block 1, Teviot district, as per sketch, under the 161st clause of the Act, at 2s 6d per acre. No power. Mr Connell applied regarding the extension of saw-mill licenses at Tapanui. To be permitted to abandon what is already cut, and to pay for the remainder 4s per acre per annum, not exceeding five years. Survey to be submitted for any part to be abandoned.
