MORE FIRES AT WAIKO HAITI.

It would appear that we are not to be allowed to rest conte ted with the disastrous losses which the recent fires in this and the Shag Valley districts have entailed, but that other similar catastrophes still continue to startle the public and render increased vigilance on the part of the farmers necessary. On Sunday morning last another fire broke out at the Maori Kaik, among the stacks of Mr D. Ellison, and before the flames were subdued four stacks of oats and one of wheat were consumed, as well as a stack of wheat alongside belonging to a well-known Maori named Peacock. Ellison was insured in the New Zealand for L2OO, and Peacock in the same company for L4B, so that both are to a great extent secured from loss by the exercise of a little forethought in insuring, which it is so necessary for everyone to do. and which no one should neglect. In another direction we learn that two fires haVe occurred during the past week, one on the farm of Messrs Cochrane, Shag Valley, and the other at Bushy Park. In the one instance two stacks of oats were destroyed, which were uninsured, and the Messrs Cochrane estimate their loss at LBO, and iu the other a stack of straw was consumed belonging to Mr F. D. Rich. At inouests touching the origin of the fires of tne previous week, the juries found that that on Mr Murdoch’s farm was the act of an incendiary; and that that at Haley’s store was caused by an accident.— ‘Herald.’
