THE DE MURSKA CONCERTS.
_ Last night Madame De Murska treated- a Dunedin audience to a taste of her quality in operatic scena; and : despite great drawbacks proved that her dramatic power fully sustains her vocal abilities. She choße lor representation the scena from in which the famous 'Shadow Song'* occurs. The stage was arranged with, much effect: and at the close of the con* cert proper she appeared en costume. It was intended to have used the lime light, which is a necessary adjunct to the interpret : tation of the song ; hut somehow or other. , despite the utmost endeavors of thi* persons in charge of it the apparatus would not work. However, Madame acted and eang in a manner that" fairly took the house by storm : and at" the conclusion of the scena the applause waa 46 hearty and general as it was long con.; tmued. The orchestral accompaniment was weU played by a baud under Mr Hill's leadership, which included Messrs Syke* (piano), i*. Jones (second violin), fichott (oboe), Mears (clarionet), Bishop (violin* cello), West (double bass). Madame's other appearances were in Herold's aria "Pre aux * Clercs," with an admirable violin obligate by Mr Hill, and the ballad "l-riee from dreams from thee," which was substituted for "I dreamt that I dwelt," both being encored'. ' Of the rest mention must be made of Signor Rosnati's two solos, which evoked much. enthusiasm. Thftsj grand aria from Trovatore was splendidly* sung; and its repetition being called for, he fave, with equal effect, "Siquellanira," . ignor Susini in " Tu de foi i'addormentata* helped ub to realise how grand a Mephißtophes he would make r aiwi~ln"thß duet " with Signor Bosnati: from Belsiarius, hs> ww l»eard to ., TJie finalvmov^J
ment of the duet, which has become immensely popular, was taken much better the second time. Signor Giammona's flute solos, and Mr Hill's pianoforte solo, came in for a due share of the applause. The mad scene from " Lucia " will be the feature of to-night's concert, aud Madame will give for the firat time here the bolero from "The Sicilian Vespers," and Schubert's serenade.
