Napier, May 3. At a meeting of the Municipal Council last evening, letters were read from the Mayor of Wellington asking the co-opera-tion of the Mayor of Napier re the Municipal Loans Bill, and suggesting a conference 1 of the Mayors of the Colony at some central place. The Mayor promised to co-operate. Consumers of gas complain of the price charged here—lßs 9d per I,oooft (cash) and threaten to revert to kerosene unless a reduction is made.
Invercargill, May’3. Two slight shocks of earthquake were felt here at 6.40 this evening. The direction was west to east. They were accompanied by a rumbling noise.
(From our own Correspondent.) Napier, May 4. Brower’s saw mill at Takapau was burnt down last night. He estimates the damage atL4,500, and was wholly uninsured. He had come into Napier last night to arrange for a supply of timber for the harbor works*
