FATAL ACCIDENT.
An accident, unfortunately attended with fatal consequences, occurred at Outram about noon yesterday, by which a man named George Anderson lost his life. The deceased was in charge of a gang, of men who are employed by the Board of Conservators in driving piles to protect the bank of the river from being washed away at a point where the river has done a considerable amount of damage. It appears that the deceased, with others, was working with and around the pile-driver, or monkey, when without any warning the scaffolding gave way and monkey and men were precipitated into the river. The rest of the men swam out, but the deceased never rose or was seen. It is supposed that he was struck by some part of the pile-driver or timber. Dragging lor the body has been proceeded with, but up to 9 this morning without success.
