Thursday, May 4, (Before E. ff. Ward, Esq., and C. Flexman, Esq., J.P.’s.)

Drunkenness.— David Clark was fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment; George Neish, 40s, or forty-eight hours’ Wife Beating. —William Thomas was charged by Mary Thomas with assaulting and beating her. Complainant also asked that defendant be bound over to keep the peace.—Complainant, after stating the case, said she did not wish to press the charge, provided her husband promised not to further molest her.—Defendant was bound over to keep the piece for six months in his own recognisance of LlO and one surety for a like amount. Theft by a Servant. —Alex. Forbes Boyd was charged with stealing a piece of carpet of the value of 355, the property of Thomas Henry Woodcock. Accused was in prosecutor's employ, and had stolen the office carpet, which he sold to one John Turner, a dealer, for 7s. Accused was sent to gaol for a month.

Vagrancy.— Janet Wilson and Margaret Clarke were charged with having no lawful means of support. Accused escaped from the Female Refuge last night, and were this morning found by Sergt. O’Neill wandering about the streets. They then stated that they had no place to go to. —They were strongly recommended to return to the Refuge. ■
